Samsung exec states readying smart watch application to battle Apple

Not to be outdone by rumors of a presumed Apple-built "smart watch," a Samsung executive on Tuesday disclosed that the Korean company is too employed on its own application into the wearable computing arena, but failed to reveal any thing about the purported device.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung is developing a wristwatch to compete Apple in wearable device industry.

“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” said Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business. “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”

Besides firm confirmation, Lee had not told about the feature set, price or availability.

Apple is accepted to be launching its own smart watch proposing later in 2013, and rumors point to a device made of curved glass and metal that wirelessly connects to a user's iPhone. The unit is considered to be capable of simple procedures, including commanding certain iPhone functions like call dismissal and note reading.

AppleInsider was 1st to reveal a U.S. patent filing for a wrist-worn device with a flexible display that connects to smartphones via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Although word has spread quickly through media shops regarding the supposed "iWatch," no leaks or substantive reports are unearthed.
